Layout doesn\'t change corectly

I really, really love your Esplanade theme, but am having an issue with layouts.

I am using it for http://www.scifispace.com and love the home page and the single post pages, but when I try to using sidebar / content for the Event and Forums pages which is what I really want, it doesn’t work correctly and displays as you see it now but with items from both right and left columns beneath the main content in like a 100 pixel width column. If I set it to fullwidth layout (which I have it set to now), it shows with a sidebar on the left instead of full width and I cannot set anything IN that sidebar.

I just cannot get the pages to display the layouts correctly and its driving me nuts.

Any ideas? I am using wordpress 3.8.1 and your latest version of the theme.
